We are the Bergmans, and this is the story of how we came to love this peaceful little spot in the woods.
One summer weekend, my husband Joe and I decided to get away to pray about some important matters in our family.
We found a quaint little cabin in Hochatown, Oklahoma and spent a few restful days exploring the beautiful lake and famous terrain of the area.
We were hooked, and soon Broken Bow Lake – and what is now The Haven – became our regular getaway. We love this place and its people, and have made many friends in the community – a number of whom help us take care of this property and prepare it for our guests.
The Bergmans
While exploring the Ouachita National Forest, Beaver’s Bend, Broken Bow Lake, and other areas around Hochatown, OK, we stumbled upon a breathtaking cabin with views to match.
With a little creativity, we tracked down the builder and met to discuss the possibility of designing a cabin of our own. Though we had no intention of buying anything, it felt like someone greater than ourselves had other plans.
When we returned home, we could not stop thinking about our cabin. After much prayer and discussion, we took the leap and broke ground on Living Water Lodge.
Our dream was simple but meaningful: to create a space for our large family to come together for generations; a place where old and young could connect and create lifelong memories.
Joe’s parents joined us, and together we envisioned a space that could serve not just our family but also others. In fact, our first gathering was to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Living Water Lodge became a haven for families and friends, a retreat for church staff to find rest, and a space for corporate teams to cast vision.
As a blended family, we’ve experienced the challenges that come with divorce, which inspired us to launch The Anchor Foundation (www.TheAnchorFoundation.org).
Our hope is that The Haven will also serve as a place for marriages and families to find restoration and healing, just as we’ve worked to foster in our own lives.
